General Purpose:

The Acute (Acute Rehab Unit) LPN is accountable to the Acute Care Nursing Director and House Supervisor. Medication administration, care management and gives direct patient care, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding patients, and assisting in examinations and treatments. Ability to lift, walk, carry and stand.

Essential Functions:

Performs nursing activities in compliance with the plan of care

Performs or assists in nursing actions based on selected nursing measures.

Demonstrates compliance with established policies/procedures when delivering nursing care and delegated nursing functions.

Evaluates and intervenes when necessary with the nursing care delivered by other health personnel on the team.

Reports and records observations, nursing actions and other information relevant to patient care.

Actively involved with identifying and providing patient and family needs.

Initiates plan for disposition of patient through clear communication of patient instruction and education of patient and/or family.

Duties and Responsibilties:

  1. Demonstrates the ability to recognize, report and document changes in:
  2. Physiological status
  3. Behavioral patterns
  4. Signs and symptoms of complications
  5. Life threatening situations.
    • Administers medications and intravenous therapy in compliance with Boulder City Hospital Nursing Department and Nevada State Board of Nursing policies and procedures (see LPN IV Regulations Policy) and (NAC 632.450 & 632.455)
    • Documents appropriate observations, treatments, medications and response to nursing and medial intervention based on own observation and the collection of data.
    • Demonstrates skill in making patients comfortable and assuring privacy and dignity.
    • Responds to life threatening situations, inclusive of Code 99 situations, internal and external disasters and drills.

Skills and Abilities Required:

1. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

2. Language Skills – Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures.

3. Mathematical Skills – Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dosages, percents, proportions, area circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

4. Reasoning Ability – Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

5. Supports philosophy, objectives and goals of the Emergency department.

6. Performs within limits of State Nurse Practice Act, Code of Ethics for Nurses, hospital policies and procedures.

7. Acts as a resource person regarding patient care, specialty areas, orientation and teaching of staff.

8. Strives for excellence in patient care and, as necessary, challenges and/or corrects errors of peers to ensure patient safety and well being.

Education and Experience Required:

1. Current Nevada Licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Nevada.

2. Current BLS Certification.

3. Able to follow oral and written instructions and write simple records under supervision.
